Atomic EnergyAtomic EnergyAtomic Energy
The atoms of certain radioactive elements like
uranium, thorium etc., on reactions, produce
atomic energy which is used to produce
electrical energy. Atomic bombs are prepared
by making use of atomic energy.

There are the following two sources
Electric bulb, tube light and candle
of energy :
are some sources of light energy.
(a) renewable sources
(b) non-renewable sources
Renewable SourcesRenewable SourcesRenewable Sources
Renewable sources are the sources which are available
in a large amount in nature and are infact inexhaustible.
Examples of such sources are wind energy, solar energy,
hydro power energy, biogas energy etc. These sources
of energy are also called alternative sources of energy.
Solar energy : Energy from the Sun is called solar energy. The Sun is the
most important source of heat energy. Solar energy is one of the most useful
forms of energy.
Hydroelectric energy : The electricity produced by using the energy of
falling water is called hydroelectricity.
Biomass Energy : Biogas is a mixture of gases produced
during decomposition of biomass in the absense of Oxygen
Methane is the main component of biogas.
e.g. : Biogas plants, cowdung, sewage, crop residues,
vegetable wastes, poultry dropping.
Geothermal : Energy harnessed from the heat of the sun
is called geothermal energy.
Magma formed when this heat melts the rocks acid gets
collected at some depths below earth surface. When
underground waste comes in contact with these, it changes
into steam, which is used to generate electricity.
Nuclear Energy : Energy released when some changes
takes place in the nucleus of the atom of a substance is
called Nuclear Energy. Its advantage is that from a small
amount of fuel, a large amount of energy is released.
